The major factor to induce young dog has Chd is the dog has carried these genes. If the dog has these genes, he is going to have Chd problem. Joint laxity is the most important factor to evaluate the probability of CHD on young dog. PennHip technique is used to test the joint laxity in young dog. There is still can't rule out the CHD even the OFA x-ray looks normal on young dog. We can use Pennhip to measure the real joint laxity to predict the possibility of occurring of CHD on this dog. If the DI within safe range(<0.3), then we can say this dog will be more than 99% free of CHD. The bad news for golden retriever is that there is almost no dog's DI less than 0.3. The good thing is even a golden's DI is higher than 0.3 doesn't means he is going to have CHD. Every breed has there own DI range and the related possibility to CHD occurrance. Pennhip system will give you a report depending on your dog DI to let you know the probability of your dog to be have CHD.
